Smith Street Taps Catch-up on 9th May

Our 1st stop post AGM is to revisit an old friend and evergreen favourite on the local scene - Smith Street Taps!

It was a perfect time for our Craft Beer lovers to catch up with Brett Pover, who had an amazing run at the recent Annual iBrew Challenge, to find out more about his “Best-of-Show” Sour!

The 14th iBrew Challenge 2023 - CBA takes some awards!

The 14th Edition of the iBrew Challenge was finally back on 22nd April 2023n after the pandemic hiatus and it was a blast as good as any other!

In light of some unforeseen challenges post-pandemic, this year’s edition had morphed into a private event and Craft Brew Asia was privileged to be invited to the proceedings.

This post recaps some of the memorable moments of the day…

The Judgment of Clementi 2023

~ with iBrew Head Honcho Raymond and Dr Joe

Some of the Homebrews and sponsored kegs (one of which was a Pink Mist Treat from Able Brewing, as well as 2 Taps from Craft Brew Asia (brewed by Brett Over) with a tremendously well-received English Mild and an American Pale Ale.

The brew tents were out with 23 kegs from the home brewers - with some kegs brewed by CBA members (Any Malcolm, Brett Power, Craig Evenson, Graham Hunt & James Padgett)

Meanwhile at the Craft Brew Asia Booth, we were serving up English Mild Goodness and letting the beer convince craft beer loving folks to sign-up as members.

Lastly, CBA members Andy Malcolm took an award for his “Tribute to the Plum"“ Porter while Brett Pover won in the Sour Category with a Best in Show Award!

Red Dot Dempsey Catch-up and Homebrew sharing night (14 March 2023)

It has been a while that CBA has been back to Red Dot, one of the Grand Dames of the Singapore Craft Beer scene after Brewery and Archipelago. Red Dot has been a CBA friend for a long time, and some of the members remember fondly interacting with founder Mr Ernest Ng.

Ernest’s brewing journey started 14 years ago, when the craft beer industry here was still in its infancy. His pioneering spirit led to RedDot BrewHouse, Singapore’s first locally-owned microbrewery cum restaurant in Dempsey Hill in 2007. The brand has since won numerous awards, expanded to Melbourne and Myanmar, and produced Singapore’s youngest certified female brewmaster in Crystalla, Ernest’s daughter.

The father and daughter duo continue to innovate, with unique flavours such as a red dragon fruit beer, banana stout, and their signature Monster Green Lager beer, a spirulina-infused beer that boasts health benefits

We had a chillax evening sipping on the classic Red Dot brews, when Crystalla popped by and spent time sharing about some of the new brews she was experimenting with - the likes of a Peach Gelato Sour and a light and zippy Stout.

She also shared about her involvement in a Probiotic Beer project she was involved in as well as about the progress of the Whiskey distillery brewing at the back of where we were seated!

Thank you Red Dot for hosting us again, and cheers to the renewal of our historic ties!

Kicking off 2023 at HamBaoBao & Lils TapRoom! (7th Feb 2023)

HamBaoBao first started life as a food stall located at Beauty World Food Centre in 2014.
Fans and supporters will be aware that after 5 years, they ended operations in 2019.

Well, they are back with version 2.0 physical store at Sam Leong Road in Jalan Besar!

An additional piece of good news for CBA members is that HamBaoBao & Lils Taproom is also a Brewer Friendly Bar ~ this means that we can bring along our homebrews for future member tasting events!

Burgers and Beers are one of the irrefutable simple pleasures in life - and it gets even better with like-minded mates around having beer-fuelled discourses on Craft Brews and the meaning of life - No ChapGPT required here!

We were hosted by the affable couple Ryan and Claire who served up a curation of Asian-inspired Burgers - cue the Peranakan influenced Ayam Buah Keluak Burger where the classic Peranakan dish (of chicken in a curried gravy topped with a painstaking preparation of Keluak Nuts) is transmogrified into a chicken patty burger infused with the meaty nut flavor.

Craft Beers on Tap had a broad selection from Hazies, the Garage Project Nelson Sauvin hopped one, to the classic Stone WootStout which we could not resist. Best part was that we had a $10 pint offer with each burger purchased, and $4 off each pint the whole night. Classy….

We ended the evening with a treat for everyone, and especially for the Homebrewers present - Brett’s Gose and a monster IPA, doped with a massive dollop of a dominant Chinook supported by a stellar cast of worthy Centennials, Amarillos and what have you…
